Travel nurses love to keep in touch with family and friends and the internet is probably one of the best way to do that when you are on assignment.

Not counting the obvious pages like Facebook and MySpace, I actually write on a regular basis on different sites as well like because some of my friends like to keep in touch in different ways.

I recently added Twitter to my repertoire of websites where I let other people know where I am and what I am up to.

Anyway, this here is a list of my favorite online communities.

Facebook is of course king at the moment.

MySpace, I started out with MySpace but then everyone started joining Facebook so I joined the bandwagon.

LinkedIn is more where I keep my pofessional life but I still have a few friends that I keep in touch on that site.

Twitter is fun cause its fast but it can get annoying when someone gets bored and "tweets" every 5 minutes.

Classmates.com is great fun.

One thing I have noticed in the past few months is that many companies are on these sites.  I'm not just talking about small companies like the mom and pop shop across the street like but big companies like, Coca Cola, Sony,  Aya healthcare, Metlife, and many others.  I'm no marketing expert but its fun to see how everything fun thing someone can come up with gets overtaken by big companies trying to make a buck.

I have been using MySpace for about 2 years now and its a great place to meet people and keep in touch with family and friends.  As a traveling nurse, MySpace is ideal as it lets me share my thoughts to everyone I know without having to write 50 emails a day.

Another thing I love about MySpace.com is that I get to share information from other nurses as well as look for potential travel nursing assignments.

A new travel insurance product that offers people with asthma the chance to buy cover at an affordable price has been developed by Unique Insurance and Asthma UK. This new scheme is now available online so getting a quote is easy. There is also a 5% discount for policies purchased online.

Going on holiday can cause real headaches for people with asthma, with many insurance companies reluctant to provide travel policies for them.

This new scheme should not only help people with asthma obtain cover at more competitive rates but also provide further benefits for people looking for travel insurance:

-- It is quick and easy to purchase, as no referrals for medical screening are required
-- Single trip and annual policies are available
-- There is no age limit on single trip policies
-- Asthma UK will receive a donation for each policy sold

Karen Newell, one of the Asthma UK Adviceline nurses, said: "The Asthma UK Adviceline receives numerous calls from people with asthma who have received a poor deal from their travel insurers. I have spoken to people who have been unable to get cover at affordable prices, or are unreasonably excluded from getting any cover, if they declare they have asthma."
